Cultural: My garden update

Here in Poland our weather varies widely. We we have some 80 F weather in the summer and some 50 and 60 F weather.  Some summers we have a cool summer and sometimes we have a hot one. So far this year we've had some days of each. I have already gotten in my sugar peas - they are done as we had some very hot weather and they finished (they love cool weather).  My husband has potatoes planted, which love cool weather.

I also recently planted some zucchini. I now how have 19 plants! Can't wait til August when I start seeing fruit.

I have a very generous attitude towards weeds.  "Hmm,"  I think, "I can spend an hour today weeding and come back and do it again in three days or just go inside and sew." I pull the ones out of the rows of the corn and leave the ones besides the rows. I planted every other row as green beans here.  Corn/green beans/corn/greenbeans/corn.  It's not the best in the world, but my soil is only 'so-so'. I should be more diligent with pulling weeds. But it feels more endless than fixing meals for a family of 7!

I have several tomato plants in pots.

I then have corn and some green beans and various pumpkins planted.

Have you ever seen green beans when they were growing on the plant (these are bush beans). One year I planted tall ones against my fence - I had beans and beans and beans!

I think they are so cute!

I will go back out and check soon - as this was taken several days ago.

We have had some cold weather the last few days so the garden hasn't grown quickly lately, but things are growing.

A flower from a pumpkin or squash plant.  I have several pumpkin plants - of various kinds - small pumpkins for making Jack o Lanterns, white (!), and I think a couple of Big Max plants! We'll see what happens. So far no pumpkins have formed any of the plants.

That's in the garden.

Back in the house I've been putting  my nose to the grindstone and trying to get some quilts quilted.

At some time in the future, I'd like to address these categories and prices and give my opinion. That wasn't the purpose here - it was just to show you the thing I was referencing.

So far, four quilted, with one partially done.  I've been working hard. I didn't have that much time on Sunday - though the weather was perfect for quilting!  I still need to do some trimming and preparing binding and binding.

Let's see. According to a popular picture  I've seen floating around Facebook, "preparing binding" takes 2 hours.  I'm not really sure how it could take someone that long unless they were a rank beginner, and even at that, I don't understand how it would take that long to cut some strips sew them together diagonally (even 12 for a huge quilt and the quilt referenced was not a huge quilt) trim, and fold it in half and press.  Done. Binding is prepared.

And that's what's been happening here! Have a great day!

Don't forget to check out what my sis has for you over in the store!
